Odds and Ends

Side view of the house, the back yard (Journey's swing set will go at the far end) and the other side yard where Journey's play house is. She kept asking to go back there and play and I know it will be a favorite spot. There are monkey bars attached to it and everything!! The shed in the background is perfect for a lawn mower and or other yardy type things.

The Back Deck and Entrance

We're getting near the end folks. Just a couple of pics of the back deck where Garron has already planned many a BBQ, and one of his 'workshop' where I'm sure he will spend most of his free time.

What used to be a garage is now a workshop. It has a door to the outside and an entrance to the basement. It is insulated and set up for heat but needs some more insulation under the floor. It will be a great place for Garron to store his tools and work on all his little (and not so little) household reno projects.

The Bedrooms

The top pic is of a little, windowless room we'd like to turn into a bathroom. The next two are bedrooms at the end of the hall. The are both good size rooms with this purple one being the biggest. Not ideal decorating but hey, that's why I'm married to a painter!!

Down Below ..

Now for the basement. I am of the mind that basements should not exist ... but if I HAVE to have one I'm happy to have it be like this. Its not beautiful by any stretch but it is very functional and clean. The large open space will probably be used as rumpus room until such a time as we can have renters down there and then it will be their living room. Our delay in having renters is that there is no bathroom for them and it looks like it will be a MAJOR project to put one in. Any plumbers out there that wanna give free advice? (:

The Kitchen and Back Entrance

I am really drawn to the kitchen in this house. It reminds me of an old farm kitchen .. bright, built ins, wide woodwork. I like that there are pot lights under the top cupboards. They make an otherwise sterile kinda room rather cozy. Access to the basement and back deck/yard is through the kitchen.

Sol's Room and the "Attic"

Sol's room is the last room on the north side of the house. It's even blue! And it has a carpet ... which is good if he's gonna play around in there. And in his room is a door that leads to the attic. How cool is that? It's kinda like a secret passage. (I LOVE IT) The attic is just a large open room - well insulated but not finished. Garron will need to frame in some side walls (there is no flooring on the edges) in order for it to be safe for the kids to play up there. Our plan is to turn it into a special place for them and all their toys.

The Necessities

Beside Journey's room (but around a little 'corner') is the bathroom. It may take some adjusting as the loo we had at Manda's was the size of a bedroom ... but we'll manage. The door to this bathroom is a sliding door - hidden in the wall.

Journey's Room

Journey's room is beside ours and is a bit bigger than her present room. She also has a built in wardrobe/drawers. Her window looks out over a side yard in which a little playhouse has been built. Very cute ... she has already claimed it as her own.

Our Room

ItalicOur bedroom is about the same size as the room we have at Manda's. But this one has a built in wardrobe with drawers. I love the character. The wardrobe is big enough to play hide and seek in for sure (in fact, we already did).

Living / Dining Room

As you enter the front door you come through the porch and into the living room. Very similar to our house on 8th Ave, actually. (but bigger) There are three large windows so lots of light gets in. Very cheery. At one end (as you can see) there is a built in china cabinet. Now I've gotta get some more china! Two bedrooms exit off the living room ... the one nearest the front of the house will be ours and the next one will be Journeys.

Pics of the House!

The top pic is the front view of the house. #131 6th Ave SE
Journey is VERY excited about this being her new home and so you will see her in a lot of the pics, usually dancing! This front porch is insulated but not heated (something Garron could probably fix quite easily) and would be a great place to sit and read.

Best Friends!

Nearer to the beginning of February we had EDBD (Journey's cousin Ethan) for a sleep over. Journey was very excited about this and the two of them had a super time. Journey loves her EDBD and for the most part they get along great. Of course, she feels the need to 'mother' him even though technically he is older. Now that he will be living close by I am sure there will be many more playdates and sleepovers which will make Journey very happy.

Auntie Sharon!

Journey and Sol with Auntie Sharon. Its been fun having Sharon around this winter! I'm very glad the kids are getting the chance to build a relationship with her.
